5760x1080 Surround and Eyefinity gaming performance

Gaming on three monitors at 5760x1080

With so much horsepower under the hood and with all the graphics memory available on graphics cards like these it would be a shame not to test multi-monitor performance.

Hence we setup three Dell LCD screens and combined three 1920x1080 monitors towards a resolution of 5760x1080. These days all modern game titles can handle gaming on three monitors, whether or not it is your thing in terms of rendering power needed and stuff like bezels in-between the screens, I'll leave up to you to decide.

With three monitors we pass 6 MPixels that need to be rendered which is definitely a huge task. At this point if at all you are using AA your graphics card will need to have 2 GB of graphics memory at minimum.

We take six games from our benchmark suite and fire off the following cards:

  • GeForce GTX 680
  • GeForce GTX 690
  • Radeon HD 7970 GHz
  • ARES II
  • ARES II Crossfire (4 GPUs)

Far Cry 3

2045_untitled-1

  • Very High-quality DX11 mode
  • 2x MSAA (Anti-aliasing)
  • 16x AF (Anisotropic Filtering).
Far Cry 3 - As you can see the ARES II leads the pack here. It is the kind of behaviour you'll notice a lot in the extreme resolutions. Unfortunately 4 GPUs (ARES II Crossfire) had negative performance scaling and thus are left out.

Medal of Honor Warfighter

Medal of Honor Warfighter - Ultra Quality mode and 4xMSAA with DX11 is activated. Again we see the ARES II take a nice lead. Unfortunately Eyefinity in combination with 4 GPUs became very unstable making the game crash and was showing abnormal low framerates.

A single ARES II if fine of course, and at 65 FPS you should be a happy man considering we apply 4xMSAA at monitor resolution of 5760x1080.

Hitman Absolution

2047_untitled-3

  • DirectX 11
  • High Quality settings
  • 2x MSAA
  • 16x AF
  • Internal benchmark used

Hitman Absolution was my favorite game in December alongside MOH Warfighter. Again we see the ARESII scale great, however the role is reversed and at 5760x1080 the GeForce GTX 690 takes the lead. 4-way GPU Crossfire mode would show negative performance scaling, and as such did not work.
