Alright, above, the packaging and yes yes... that's the reference Radeon HD 7970. This cooling solution will fit many graphics cards and should even fit on many non reference 7970 cards due to its design. That remains a bit of a tricky statement though so you'd better be wise and check with Arctic first if that dilemma comes up.

Once you open up the packaging you'll quickly learn that A LOT needs to be assembled. Pretty much the casing, the liquid cooling block and obviously followed by mounting that onto the card. You will also need to figure out a position for the 120mm based radiator and fan. The package is bundled with heaps of little components like heatsinks for VRM and memory, screws, thermal paste, adhesive (glue), power cables, washers and the list goes on and on...

Here's a quick overview of that. That's like maybe over 50 components right there staring at you. A reasonably descriptive manual is included to guide you along the way.

Talk is cheap, we start preparing for assembly. We removed all and every little screw in the reference R7970 after which we can remove the reference cooler. Once you've removed it clean the GPU die area of residual thermal paste.
