Now for the AMD APU series the standard bundled coolers will also get updated, you just will not receive the Wraith cooler. Again improvements can be found on fin surface cooling area as well as more silent models. I sincerely do hope they change that red color to black though.

New APU SKUs

AMD is releasing some new SKUs in their processor and APU line-up in Q1 2016. You will see three new models A10-7860K, A6-7470K, and Athlon X4 845 APUs. All APUs obviously are based on existing architecture with tweaks mostly found in clock frequencies.  One of the more interesting APUs will be the A10-7860K, a Godavari based SKU with a baseclock of 3.6 GHz and turbo towards 4 GHz. That should bring pretty decent perf towards this mainstream SKU with its 4 CPU cores and 8 active GPU cores (512 shader processors). This by the way will be a 65 Watt TDP APU.

There will also be two other APUs launched short term, the two core A6-7470K at 4.0/3.6 GHz (turbo/base clock) and a quad core AMD Athlon X 845 3.8/3.5 GHz released. All will be based up-on a 65W TDP and all are based on existing architecture.

AMD A10-7890K

Later in February a new A10-7890K APU will be released as well. Earlier content on this product however reveals a Kaveri/Godavari APU with two Steamroller modules (these hold a total of four logical CPU cores) and 4 MB L2 cache, the AMD Radeon R7 again is the integrated GPU with its 512 shader processors. Specs however have been kept silent until that product is being released but you may expect a max. turbo frequency of say 4.3 GHz, with likely a base clock of 4 GHz (unconfirmed info though). We also expect that SKU to launch with the new Wraith cooler.

Later this year we'll see AM4 products, Zen and the next-gen APU SoC like Summit Ridge and Bristol Ridge.

Some gossip and a few rumors

AMDs CEO Lisa Su recently has been talking about releasing Zen based products. With Zen AMD also hopes to get a reach in data-centers, servers based on Zen processors would be available in 2017. According to Su, Zen based processors would offer a performance improvement of 40% per clock for clock cycle compared to the Excavator generation. The Zen architecture will be built on a more efficient 14 nanometer FinFET process, rather than the 32 nm and 28 nm processes of previous AMD FX CPUs and AMD APUs, respectively.

The "Summit Ridge" Zen family will feature a unified AM4 socket with its GPU-equipped "Bristol Ridge" APU counterparts, it would feature feature DDR4 support and a 95W TDP.  While newer roadmaps don't confirm the TDP for desktop products, they suggest a range for low-power mobile products with up to two Zen cores from 5 to 15W and 15 to 35W for performance-oriented mobile products with up to four Zen cores. Each Zen core will have four integer units, two address generation units and four floating point units, and the decoder can decode four instructions per clock cycle. L1 data cache size is 32 KiB and L2 cache size 512 KiB per core. Two of the floating point units are adders, two are multipliers.

Earlier on AMD already satted that they would release Zen at the end of 2016. It seems that we'll see the new 14nm processors late this year. That's it for this update folks.
