So, the product we'll be testing today is an enthusiast targeted product. It's based on the nForce 680i (i for Intel) SLI chipset and the product is made by Albatron.
The product is based 100% on a 6 layer PCB NVIDIA reference design and consists of two discrete chips, the 680i MCP and the 680i SPP. One x16 PCIe slot is controlled by each chip. This provides dual x16 SLI slots for the 680i for high-end graphics cards.
Another interesting fact is that the 680i has a third PCIe x16 slot between the x16 PCIe slots for SLI. This third slot has x8 PCIe lanes instead of x16, but it could be used for another graphics card on the 680i. Obviously this x8 slot is also very suitable for a physics processor combined with SLI. It's a little far fetched though, but hey ... at this price-level it better be :)
What's also good to know is that the nForce 680i provides a total of 46 PCIe lanes, with 18 lanes available on the 680i SPP and 28 lanes provided on the 680i MCP. Lately I've mentioned Core 2 Duo processors constantly, as that really is what you should buy, but the mainboard supports Intel Socket 775 Core 2 Duo, Core 2 Extreme, Celeron D, Pentium 4, Pentium D 9XX, and Pentium D 8XX processors.
New features of the 680i are the addition of Extreme Overclocking capabilities and basic refinements of the features first introduced with the 590 SLI chipset. Features include:
FSB speeds of 1333 MHz can be achieved with a CPU that supports this specification (easily I might add)
The DDR2 memory frequency can handle speeds of DDR2-1200 and beyond, and can be used to keep pace with overclocked system components. NVIDIA nForce 680i SLI MCPs support high-speed SLI-Ready memory
NVIDIA nTune Utility allows adjustment of CPU and memory speeds without rebooting. There is also access to most BIOS settings from inside Windows.
True 2 x16 PCI Express SLI Support provided by two full-bandwidth, 16-lane PCI Express links.

NVIDIA MediaShieldTM Storage includes RAID and SATA drive support.
Multiple Disk Setup Through a wizard-based interface, you can set up your drives for better data protection, faster disk access or maximum storage capacity. As you can see that's quite a colorful palette of functionality and options.
Realistically, 95% of this boards features and options are similar to that of the AMD 590 mainboards and 680 (AMD) board, except for LinkBoost. So with the nForce 680i you have to keep one thing in mind, it's built for the enthusiast gamer. It's major features therefore are Core 2 Duo processor compatibility, which obviously brings DDR2 memory into the ring as well. We'll talk about DDR2 in a minute, as NVIDIA and a handful of memory manufacturers have brought some new features into this platform with EPP "SLI Ready" memory as well.
Although Albatron cut away some features to be found as cables, this mainboard is 100% the real deal. You'll find everything the same as the eVGA board we recently tested, including passive cooling, dual Gig Ethernet, diagnostic LEDs, reset/pwer microswitches, multitude of connectivity etc etc .. we'll talk about all the features in a tidbit.

Albatron 680i SLI mainboard review The Albatron nForce based 680i SLI even since it's release is an amazing mainboard series. It's simple .. if you want to overclock your PC, chances are large that you at the very least are opting a 680i mainboard with Core 2 Duo processor and some good memory.
Albatron K8SLI mainboard Albatron decided toe ease the pain a little. They introduced a mainstream SLI mainboard based on the NFORCE 4 SLI chipset that is quite affordable and offers a more than enough of functionality versus excellent performance. Being an affordable mainboard costs can be cut a little. Next to that one of my personal wishes finally was introduced .. as stated you need to enable SLI mode on the mainboard if you are using two GeForce graphics card in a SLI setup, which normally can be done with that little SLI card that sits securely on your mainboard and needs to be be flipped around. Some manufacturers ditched that SLI card and allow that change from the BIOS or even automatically. Albatron is such a company, and this mainboard has a digital switch, you seriously don't have to do a thing. Lovin' it!
Albatron PC6800 - Wise Fan III + Heat Pipe When I was at the CeBIT 2005 earlier this year, a couple of things caught my attention, and I'm not 'just' talking about the beautiful booth babes here. We see a new trend in the industry, product differentiation , set yourself on another spot in the market to get more reputation and expand your diversity. Albatron, a good partner for Guru3D.com, has always been a trendsetter in that respect. This year when I walked by their booth something caught my attention. A GeForce 6800 with passive cooling ... yet it was not 100% passive. Weird yes ? Basically two cooling technologies combined.
