Windy 6 FireWire audio interface review

A Closer Look at the Windy 6 Front Panel

Windy 6

The Windy 6 has a great deal of features and I/O for your recording needs making this interface very flexible for the home studio expert or recording musician. This interface is capable of recording in many different situations and setups.
Let's take a closer look at the interface and outline exactly what we have for audio input and output.

Windy 6

We can see the Neutrik connectors for Input 1 and Input 2. Neutrik connectors are a universal connector which allows you to use TS, TRS jacks and XLR jacks. Using these connectors makes these inputs very versatile and functional as these inputs can handle microphones and direct connection of instruments such as electric guitars.
We also have gain setting for both inputs and LED level indicators for -18dB, -6dB and -3dB. These level indicators are very handy; it was quite easy to set the proper recording levels quickly during testing.

Here we can see the Gain Knob for Input 2 and the Phantom power enable/disable switch.
For those unsure what phantom power is, this switch will add 48 volts to the microphone input circuit and is used for powering higher quality condenser based microphones.

The mix level allows fading of level between outs 1, 2 or outs 3,4 for quick and easy monitoring over headphones. This control has been patterned after a DJ mixer in which you can easily fade between outputs when monitoring. e.g. Playing one track while cueing up another track.

Last but not least we have the master volume setting for the headphone amplifier output. This headphone amp is class AB and has a more current output and higher headroom then other implementations.
