TwinTech GeForce GTS 250 1024MB XT OC review | test

The Verdict

In our previous GeForce GTS 250 review from Palit we already mentioned that the GeForce GTS 250, despite being a respin product, still has a lot going for it. So when you add items to the product like TwinTech is doing, like the extra overclock, the custom cooler, 1GB of memory then the product value goes up. Unfortunately the sales price is going upwards then as well, as in the case of TwinTech's XT OC edition the AC cooler makes it all more expensive.

For this product to remain competitive it needs to be under 175 USD/EUR, otherwise it's competing directly with the GeForce GTX 260. We just got informed that this product as shown today has a 169 EUR MSRP. And that is just a very fair price tag really.

So yes, we were impressed with such a new brand delivering a product as feature rich as this. The choice of 1GB memory is a valid one, though not extremely needed. But with the latest DX10 titles and the combo of anti-aliasing we are slowly moving to a point where more than 512MB of memory starts to make a difference.

The standard overclock is nice, not grand though. We hope to see Twintech take it to the next level with their pre-overclocks. I mean, especially with a cooler like shown today, the sky is the limit really. Our own overclocks ended up at a blistering 842 MHz on the core, 2055 MHz on the shader processor domain and 2400 MHz for the memory. As a result your performance will go up substantially.

So then, we liked what we saw from this relatively new 'newcomer' in the market. We do hope to see more of TwinTech's products. The product definitely impresses and was a joy to test. A very nice product, very nice indeed.

* Update - Conslusion has been altered as TwinTech informed us that prices had been lowered towards 169,- EUR (coming from over 200 EUR) for the model we just tested, that's absolutely worth the money and a rewrite of our conclusion.
