Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio PCIe

Gaming and DVD

The X-Audio did not come willingly in the night.  There were a number of obsticles that I had to overcome with the X-Audigy. The first and foremost issue is that I had to quickly cobble together a machine, since the X-Audio was incompatible with my usual test machine's nForce 4 powered Asus A8N Premium mobo.

Thus the new machine used is configured as such:

  • Core 2 Duo E6600 CPU @2.4 GHz
  • Intel 975X XBX2 Motherboard
  • Antec 500w 'Earthwatts' PSU
  • 2GB Crucial DDR2 800
  • EVGA nVidia 8600GT
  • WD 150GB Raptor HDD
  • Seagate 120GB 7200.7 for Vista
  • Intel/SigmaTel integrated
  • Auzentech X-Meridian
  • Creative Labs Xtreme Audio PCI Express
  • Lynx ONE 1.2 024m drivers
  • WinXP Pro SP2
  • Vista Ultimate

I would love to have included benchmark scores for the Auzen X-Prelude, but due to time constraints it sadly didn't make it into the graphs.  Games used are Battlefield 2142 (1.40), Bioshock (1.1), and Call of Duty 4.  Fraps was used to count frames, and at least 5 runs each was used to mitigate variance from run to run.

I think we may have sacrificed a small animal at one point, but don't quote me on that. Let's have a peek, next page please.
