How much did you spend on the rig?

$1,500

How often do you update/buy a new rig?

I don't usually buy a whole new rig - upgrades mostly. I did just build an almost new rig (this one.) I usually keep hard drives and currently need to get a new one.

What components are used?

  • AMD Athlon64 3400+
  • BFG Geforce 6800 GT OC
  • MSI K8TNeo FSR
  • 60GB Western Digital 2MB cache 7200RPM & 200GB 8MB cache 7200 RPM
  • 1GB PC3200
  • Audigy2 NX/5.1 set I-Trigue 5600 Speakers
  • Dell 2005FPW 20.1 inch
  • Orbit webcam
  • 4x DVD burner/16x DVD writer

Why ATI or NVIDIA, why Intel/AMD?

Nvidia is at the top of the game now w/ shader 3.0 model and AMD has 64bit gaming going on. Intel has power in their chips but not smart processing though, it's like 20 really strong horses (Intel) running into a wall head on and one fast horse going the right way (AMD.)

Does the system work as expected?

Yes, generally. I am not happy with Doom3 and Chronicles of Riddick performance, but I run the game at 1680x1050! So yeah, it goes kinda slow, but Far Cry and HL2 run perfect. Widescreen gaming needs to evolve.

What's the best part of your rig?

All of it. I'm picky about what I buy and don't like to buy the most expensive thing just because it's the latest and greatest. I want to stick to a budget whilst still picking up components that perform well.

What sucks and should not have been bought?

I read tons of review before I buy something so the products have always been fully researched. Therefore there is nothing in my rig I regret buying.

Any modifications?

No, sadly I don't mod mainly 'cause I am afraid I will screw something up. I buy every thing pre-modded. I added the "watch your step" sign though! Does that count?!

3DMark scores?

3DMark05 on default settings = 5101

3DMark03 = 11259

Future upgrades?

I need a new master HDD. I also want a Raptor, and an external 200GB. I'd like an SLI motherboard and another BFG 6800 GT OC, but if that happens at all it won't be for a while. I'm gonna get a new DVD burner (16x dual layer) soon though.
