QNAP TS-439 Pro Turbo NAS review | test

QNAP TS 439 review

Once all steps are finished (should not take more than a few minutes), your HDD(s) are mounted and you are pretty much good to go. Everything is setup for you, including web-server, FTP or just plain old simple file-sharing. Remember this was all done managed through a browser on your PC.

We named our unit GURU-ROXORS (great pun eh?), and entering \\GURU-ROXORS in the address bar loads up several shares named after the services that use them. Accessing the device with a browser is simple, http://GURU-ROXORS:8080 or just read out the assigned IP at the TS-439 display (http://192.168.1.16:8080) would work as well.

If it fails, just use the QNAP finder. And if you didn't change them, your default username and password would be admin / admin

At first boot this will be you logon screen. You can go in straight to the web server and upload some file for your HTML site website or go to the file manager where you can upload and download files locally, all managed with a browser.

Or just start accessing the NAS with a network share from within windows really. The last one certainly has my preference.

Notice the entry Surveillance station - That's a new funky piece of software they recently added for security monitoring with IP security camera's. It's one of the many applications the QNAP products are loaded with.  The Surveillance Station offers recording modes, including continuous recording, motion-detection recording, and schedule recording. A wide variety of camera brands are supported. We'll leave that as is though as I want to take you to the administration pages. There's just so much to show.

Administration and configuration page --  now do not get scared away :) But yes, the NAS device is extremely configurable and once updated with the latest firmware. You even can have CMS software like Joomla running from this device. Incredible really. But have a look at the options in the screenshot above and let it sink in what the QNAP is capable of.

Impressive huh? But let's take a look at some of the more common features in the device.
