QNAP TS 439 review

Another feature I loved to see, a plain old silly FTP server. Included in the software is an FTP server (Linux ProFTP), full username/group based. All standard features are there, you can even assign ports, active passive and place limitations on the number of connections and bandwidth.

For the true Unix/Linux freaks among  you, I heard that the latest Firmware also supports RSYNC, which is quite popular for automatic transfers of file-mirrors.

I already mentioned it a couple of times, but there's a webserver inside the QNAP unit as well. It goes deep as it can handle HTML, PHP, MySQL database (served inside the QNAP unit), but also comes with for example Joomla content management software or PhpMyAdmin.

The unit already comes with Apache and PHP pre-installed. If required, php.ini could be edited, allowing specific settings for more advanced users. The www root is listed amongst the default shares, uploading a site is just really easy and if you do not have a domain, even various dynamic DNS services are supported.

It reaches too far to explain all 3rd party software and we doubt you'd be using it. But for features like these to function it is a matter of upgrading your firmware to the latest build and you are good to go. Also on the QNAP website you can download additional 3rd party software packages which are called QPKG. Additional downloadable software that can be installed by clicking without going through any complicated process.

Some examples: eMule, Wordpress, PHPMyadmin.

An example of our network setup. As you can see at the left navigation menu, there's just a lot of features you can use and setup.

Also access logs, monitoring of hardware .. everything you can think of is covered, up-to HDD and processor temperatures.
