There are some monitoring functions as well. The DAS unit will read SMART functionality, temperatures and pretty much your basic HDD information.

Some basic System information and logs can be found as well.

Also you can have the unit automatically email you once a storage unit would go belly up. Simply yet fun stuff to fool around with.

A lovely feature is the backup function of the device, controlled by the SmartNAVI software. Now it's not the most advanced backup software available, but you can select as many directories as you want to have your data backup stored externally at the DAS unit.

The backup feature is very easy to setup really. Select your backup directories and select a schedule at what interval you need these backups to take place.

So overall, simply yet adequate enough software, that can be used by pretty much anyone who know how to connect a SATA cable. That being said, we just installed a WD Velociraptor HDD, let's see how it is performing on both USB and eSATA.
