 Patriot PC2-5300 2GB DDR2 Memory

The Verdict

Patriot PC2-5300 2GB DDR2 Memory reviewIt's obvious that the modules submitted are focused at Intel platforms as AMD just released AM2 with DDR2 support and as we have shown in this article, the 800 MHz DDR2 frequency really makes a difference. None the less, I'm really pleased with this memory. For not a lot of money you will receive some excellent memory bandwidth and a lot of RAM to work with.

Next to that the memory is rather flexible when it comes to tweaking as well. Even at 800 MHz we where still able to run tight timings with a 1T command rate, and that allowed us to peak memory bandwidth at ~9000 MB/sec.

When we start to actual overclocking we cram a higher voltage (2.1v) into the DDR2 memory, and start raising the HTT/FSB in small steps. Now from there on there are a million things you can do, like lowering CPU multipliers. We did not have to forfeit with the 2.8 MHz dual-core AMD64 FX-62 processor as we neared 3.2 GHz on air cooling. At that time we had to lower timings towards 4-5-5-12 with a command rate set at 2T, yet with such massive CPU performance and that HTT we ran the memory at 907 MHz and remember .. this is DDR2 667 MHz memory. Obviously that resulted into 10.000 MB/sec bandwidth and a breathtaking CPU score. I bet that the memory can go faster .. the PC just can't.

So overall .. I'm really impressed with the PDC22G5300LLK memory DIMMs from Patriot. This lovely DIMM couple is dreadfully fast, very stable, and extremely overclockable with the right mobo and CPU. Highly recommended!

Why should you consider this memory ? Because it can be clocked at 800 MHz without any issues, still offers even more tweakability, you get a life-time warranty and the price ..  2GB for roughly 175 USD. And that's a pretty good price folks !
