 Overclocking the Radeon HD 4890

The Verdict

This article is intended as a quick guide on how to overclock this product and then show you the performance benefits of it. As you guys can see, overclocking the Radeon HD 4890 is relatively easy thing to do. There is good room for it so do not be afraid to play around with it a little. Mind you though, overclocking is not covered by your manufacturers warranty.

We pushed the reference clock from 850 MHz on the GPU core towards 971 MHz. The memory we pushed from 3900 MHz towards 4400 MHz. That is a really large baseline slash overclocking headroom to work with,.

We mentioned it in our reference review already, the Radeon HD 4890 is oozing with performance. In the end we got yet another 10% performance squeezed out of the card, which brings it at a GeForce GTX 285 performance level to be honest. And that surely does not suck for 249 USD / 229 EUR.

There will be a number of manufacturers out there releasing OC models of the 4890. And you need to wonder, if overclocking is done this easily .. do you really want to spend the additional cash on a pre-OC model ? Well, that overclock is covered by warranty and you will not have the hassle of overclocking yourself. So there is something to be said for that as well.

But come on now .. you are a guru right ? We live and breathe for this stuff.

If you have not done so, be sure to read our Radeon HD 4890 reference review.
