 OCZ Technology ModStream 520W PSU

The Verdict.
Marketed as being a handsome chromic, modular, powerful power supply with a 120mm blue fan I have to admit that I was rather impressed by the quality PSU that OCZ is capable of delivering. Granted it's not cheap at all, but likely a worthy investment. PSU's are so important these days. If not for stability then in this case for the pure aesthetics and features it offers. The PSU performed as expected, we where not even able to stress it 100%, that means you got some nice reserve in there to work with. The looks are simply gorgeous and the sound level is quite frankly reasonably silent. You will hear it purring softly though. What was quite lovely to see is the nice assortment in detachable cables UV reactive wrapped in plastic and shielding that look really good, don't forget that they have reduced electromagnetic interference also. An effect we can't show anything on as we know its there yet is not detectable unless you measure everything in a lab. What I found interesting was the inclusion of a 6-pin PCI-Express graphics connector, nice detail.

You are able to opt a cheaper model if you want, this ModStream PSU is available in a 450 Watt version also. And that's still plenty to work with. My recommendation however would be to invest, make sure you got that reserve that will help you with future upgrades and a PSU is so very important for system stability. It might be one of the most overlooked components in your PC. Oh I almost forgot it, you get a 3 year warrantee on this PSU.The ModStream 520 Watt power supply deserves an editor's choice!

One thing we know for sure is this, the ModStream series are clearly targeted at case-modders, gamers and overclockers. In one word, enthusiast high-end pc users. It's a very good, if not one of the very best options available for that audience. It has a bucket load of nice features and is a t-rex among power supplies.

Our thanks go out to OCZ Technology for the opportunity to study this power supply.
