OCZ Silencer 750 Quad Crossfire edition review

By: Hilbert Hagedoorn Edited by Ant | Published: October 10, 2007

The Verdict

Obviously the OCZ's PC Power & Cooling Silencer 750 Watt Crossfire edition PSU (phew that's a mouth full) impresses a lot. So that makes the verdict even more difficult then ever. See, I like modular cables, internal wattage meters and shamefully .. a little blue LED light or two makes me go "ooh" as well. Yes yes .. but the thing is, you have to respect the superior product. And that's what the Silencer is. This is a pure unadulterated stable power supply built with only one thing in mind .. get the current from point A to B in the most stable manner. So the geeks and the freaks who overclock, have uber-high-ends systems and don't care about too much cabling inside that PC should go for a product like this. Really, it's darn good and nobody will deny it. You are buying a 750 Watt PSU, but it can peak toward 825 Watt. I loved the inclusion of the test-report BTW. It's good to know that a PSU is pre-load tested. One thing I have to include into the conclusion is the efficiency of this PSU. Opposed to other models we recently tested we clearly noticed lower power consumption meaning a higher efficiency, very notable, very respectable.

So aside from the aesthetics there's literally nothing negative to be found about the Silencer 750. Or .. yes .. well .. it's not 100% silent. It's as loud as a run of the mill PSU but granted this noise level is not a big enough factor to weigh into to the conclusion at all. There is a downside for opting pure quality though, and that's the price .. expect to pay 150 EUR to 175 USD for this product.

So there you have it. We have a word for the audio purists .. audiophiles. And thinking along these lines we'll now also have to add the word current-purist into the dictionary, as such consumers are the ones that will buy this PSU.

It's the muscle car among the PSU's. OCZ should have some sort of horse logo on there ..
