 OCZ Behemoth game mouse review

So then, first we'll have a  look at some of the features the mouse offers, and then on the next pages we'll look into a nice photo-shoot, followed by a test and sure, I'm feeling generous today ... I'll throw in a conclusion as well ;)

OCZ Peripherals --  it's something fairly new for OCZ. Last year they introduced their OCZ Eclipse Laser Gaming Mouse and OCZ Equalizer Laser Gaming Mouse with a fairly good success. They did however want to raise the bar a little. As such they designed a somewhat large yet very comfortable mouse, the Behemoth. A mouse with a default selectable DPI range of 800 to 3200 DPI. And though the uber-high DPI ranges are already a bit of a myth, I must say I definitely like it on the Behemoth.

But let's sum up some of it's primary specifications:

  • 2-Way Scroll wheel
  • Buttons: Std. 5 + 1 dpi Toggle Switch ]
  • Hot Key: 1 Mode Switch
  • Dimensions: (L)118mm x (W)71mm x (H)44mm
  • Weight: up to 159g (adjustable)
  • DPI: 800-1600-2400-3200
  • 4-way changing LED display
  • Tracking speed: 60IPS
  • Acceleration: 50G
  • MCU: On board Memory
  • Programmable Functions for Keyboard Command saving
  • 18g Customizable weights
  • Interface: USB 2.0 / Full speed
  • Includes Customization Software
  • 2-year warranty

This model features some on-board memory which can be utilized for creating your own profiles, user-defined macro multi-profiles. For the folks not so interested in macro profiles, no need to worry. Without installing software 99% of the mouse works straight out of the box, even DPI switching, for which on a lot of other mice you need to install software.

Here are the most prominent features, courtesy of OCZ:

Gaming-Grade Double Laser Engine
The OCZ Behmoth gaming grade double laser engine provides high-precision and ultra-fast tracking power. It offers accurate and predictable motion reporting up to 60 inches per second, performance over a wide range of speeds, and accelerations covering the demands for various gaming applications in either low 800dpi or turbo charged 3200 dpi settings.

Onboard Memory
A microprocessor supports data-upload from the PC to the onboard memory of the OCZ Behemoth. Program all selected functions or commands into the mouse to instantaneously “plug and play” your settings on any computer. This patented design provides users a wide range to re-define their own mouse and eliminate the need for additional software to unlock the extra mouse functions.

Switch and Go Multi-Profiles
Four unique profiles make the OCZ Behemoth gaming mouse perfectly suitable for both working and gaming. With the flip of a switch revert to the regular function back to your own gaming function. With real-time profile change there is no delaying from when you work to when you want to play.

True Hardware dpi selection
Change the speed anytime during combat. The dpi toggle with LED status indicator gives on-the-fly sensitivity adjustment to match mouse speed to your game environment. Via the application software, users can redefine the dpi number as they choose.

Adjustable Weight
Select your ideal mouse weight with the built-in cartridge containing up to five metal weights (23g), giving you the choice to adjust your mouse weight anywhere or anytime.

Powerful Software
The special design of the OCZ Behemoth application software brings you an easy way to reset your gaming profiles and various mouse features. You can change all the defaulted functions of each profile to be your own personalized favorites, including data strings and command libraries.

So the new Behemoth gamine mouse has some pretty dandy features for a mouse. Let's take a look at it and talk you through the product.
