 NVISION 08 Day 2 - Let's see some hardware

We're continuing where we left off in part three of our NVISION coverage. We are now in the GeForce LAN hall.

3D Stereo Gaming making a return ?

Another field NVIDIA is getting active in (again) is 3D Stereo. In the GeForce LAN hall they where showing a pretty decent set of computers and monitors running Stereoscopic games. Newsflash -- Later this year NVIDIA will  release a gamers kit including Stereo glasses that have no wires. The glasses have a little battery in them that you can recharge with your USB port. Next to that, it's no longer needed to switch to the 3D Stereo game mode with hot keys. The infra red receiver box supplied with this glasses will enable stereoscopic viewing the minute you turn it on, and thus activates the driver.

Talking about drivers. One of the bigger problems always has been NVIDIA's 3D driver support. According to the NVIDIA team driver support was that bad because the products out there weren't really good. Um yeah ok NVIDIA .. that's a reason for the lack of support ?, people paid good money for their products you know .. Good news is a rumor that in the future the 3D drivers are going to be integrated in the standard driver package, much like what is happening with the PhysX stuff right now. But I'm skeptical, yet hope that once and for all the technology will get the support it deserves.

NVISION 08 Day 2 Coverage

There is no price, availability or exact launch date yet for the new glasses kit I just  mentioned. Yet I expect this to be Q4 2008. Above the infrared receiver I just mentioned.

These are the glasses in development. No wires at all. A battery is in there that can last 40 hours and then be recharched through USB.
