And then .. there's the Cops !
It’s been so long since they have had an active part to play in a NFS series but they make up for that in MW. Here you have a heat level usually between 1 to 5. The cops at these different levels treat and respond to you accordingly. The cops at level one are really dumb and shouldn’t even be considered as a threat. At level two there is just an increase in the number of cars trying to stop you. Level three sees roadblocks come into play along with Special Forces in SUVs. From level three on you need to treat the cops with respect. From level four our old enemy the spike strip is back and is used very frequently, almost like if it’s unlimited. By the time you reach level 5 you should be sweating it out and have a mixture of roadblocks, spike strips, helicopters, and federal driven corvettes. At this point I must say that on one occasion I did see a level 6 in which unmarked federal corvettes were on my tail (not the ending).
To actually lose the cops you have to put distance between you and them and the monitor on the bottom of the screen will move into the green ‘evade’ section. After this you enter the cool down mode. You need to either be in a hiding spot or stay out of the view of the cops. Remember to be covered as the helicopter can be utilized to search for you. As mentioned earlier, you can use speed breaker or pursuit breakers if the cops are hot on your trail.
Another cool but sometimes annoying part of the game is the Rapsheet tab. This is where the police monitor you and all the cars you are confirmed or suspected to drive. Another option users can utilize is to change the appearance of the car (new paint, body kit, rims etc) and the level of heat on that car will be reduced sort of like a spray n’ paint in GTA.
Once you have completed the career mode, to get 100 % in the game you have to complete all the challenges and must be number one in the ranking for both single pursuit as well as lifetime (the latter is a bit tedious with respect to infractions recorded).
