Jetway Hummer HA08 LF motherboard review

The Verdict

So then, as you have been able to see, Jetway has a fairly nice offering on the market with their Hummer edition HA08-LF. The performance is on APR with baseline of other 790GX based motherboards. Next to that the motherboard offers a lot of features, and it's tweaking potential fairly good, though that's fairly similar on all 790FX/GX motherboards. AMD just did their homework there really well. With a processor like used today, 3600 MHz is not a difficult thing to achieve at all.

The Hummer HA08-LF has some discomforts though. The positioning of the micro switches (reset/power) and the SATA ports are just awkward. Perhaps Jetway should start thinking about using the SATA connector that are placed in a horizontal position. Also I find the coloring schema is a little too much. These days we like products that look crisp and clean. There are just too many colors on the hummer. Keep it 2 or 3 tone (e.g. black/yellow/orange) I say. But that's personal of course.

Performance wise the Hummer HA08-LF did not disappoint whatsoever, very much just like build quality as there's nothing to complain there either. It's well built and sturdy, uses good quality capacitors and the cooling, though passive, seems to function just fine.

You get HDMI, DVI, VGA, 8-channel sound (analog), full Phenom II AM3 support, Gigabit Ethernet, dual PCIe graphics ports for Crossfire, seven SATA ports, debug diagnostic LED and more ... For their future updates I do hope to see a couple more USB ports on the rear panel and I do feel a TOSLINk connector is just mandatory these days.

Though hard to find, a board like the Hummer HA08-LF can be spotted for 125 USD in e-tail and surely it is worth the money you have to pay for is. It's versatile, feature rich and oozes good performance. If you still have a Phenom AM2+ processor and DDR2 memory then just seek a DDR2 model opposed to DDR3. As our recent tests have shown, the performance difference is too small to make a difference really. So going towards DDR3 on the 790 FX/GX chipset does not at equal a jumping performance.

So the bottom line is that the Jetway HA08-LF Hummer is very decent motherboard. It's loaded with options. And while I find the SATA connector positioning a bit of a downer there's otherwise nothing that stands in the way of getting this motherboard. If you you can live with the fact you 'might' loose 2 SATA ports out of seven available. This can be considered to be a very positive and well built motherboard.

I noticed Newegg selling this board for 109 USD, that is a good deal. Great value really.
