 Intel Pentium 4 - 3.2 GHz

By: Hilbert Hagedoorn Edited by  | Published: July 29, 2003

Conclusion
Oh my oh my ...  this thing is _so_ fast people, in fact the fastest processor that I have tested to date. In all honesty I must immediately state that it's all about the combo though. The high bandwidth due to Dual Channel DDR, the Intel 865PE based mainboard with PAT (a performance enhancement mode) enabled and a 800 MHz FSB. but all facts considered, this rig is simply flying. Not once did we encounter a crash, not once where we worried about heat. The step to increase the FSB towards 800 MHZ was a great one.
Our overclocking experiences are more than sufficient, the 3.2 GHz CPU ran at the first try in tweaking at 3.5 GHz instantly with core voltage set at 1.6 volts and FSB increased to 4x220, we got a total of 3.52 GHz while remaining stable with a conventional cooling technique thus a standard fan/heatsink. The core ran at 65-70 Degrees C during benchmarks.

If you are interested in buying the class C Pentium 4 Processor then be prepared for a big disadvantage though, you need to spend a lot of money. You'll need the works like a new mainboard and Dual Channel DDR memory to get the high memory bandwidth the Pentium 4 feels itself so good in. If you have that combination that I guarrantee you, it'll be the fastest performing platform you have ever owned.

Yes my friends, definitely recommended. There are two things I do not like about this product though, the first is of course the price tag, our own pricewatch database reports this product in it's cheapest form for 652 USD which is by far too much money for a processor, click here to check the latest price btw.

Now the hard part, the second thing I do not like about the Pentium 4 - 3.2 GHz ... sending it back to Intel, because I love it :)

I'll end this review with a small quote from Jim Carreys movie Bruce Almighty ' .. it's Gooodd.'
