HIS Radeon 4870 ICEQ4+ TURBO review

HIS Radeon 4870 ICEQ4+ Turbo card features and bundle

HIS submitted their Radeon HD 4870 not only with 1024 MB of memory, but it also comes with some customizations.

A UV reflective dual-slot ICEQ4 cooler is obviously present, and next to that this is the Turbo version, which boils down to the fact that the card is overclocked (though slightly) for you.

Normally the Radeon HD 4870 would have a 750 MHz core and shader frequency, this model is clocked at 770 MHz as standard for you. next to that you'll also gain some extra memory bandwidth as the GDDR5 clock is set at 4000 MHz, which is 400 MHz higher than the reference clock. Not at all dramatically higher clocks but every tiny little bit surely helps, and we already learned that the 4870 cards really love the faster memory. When we look at the PCB of the card, we immediately spot that the layout is different, this is a customized blue colored PCB, hopefully that will yield some good overclocking results as well, which we'll cover at the end of this article.

You can expect roughly a 150 Watt peak power consumption. At a 249 USD introduction price, we expect this to be a very competitive product on the market. Last thing we obviously need to mention, included in the box are:

  • DVI to VGA Dongle x 1
  • DVI to HDMI Dongle x 1
  • Crossfire bridge x 1
  • Manual
  • Driver CD

HIS is going a little cheap on the bundle here. No additional software, no free multi purpose screw-driver anymore. It's a little weird to see the bundle this sober. Price wise the product is positioned pretty competitively so the value needs to be found in the extras in the form of cooling, design and that small overclock.
