Guru3D Rig of the Month - July 2009

By: Hilbert Hagedoorn Edited by IRB | Published: July 27, 2009

Why ATI or NVIDIA, why Intel / AMD?
If I buy something, then I look at the money available in my pocket and I search for the best component for that money. Personally I like ATI and AMD, but at the same time Intel for the past 2 years have had the best CPUs.

Does your PC live up to your expectations?
Yeah and even more! I didn't even dream about such a nice good rig when I first stepped into the world of computers.

What's the best part of your rig?
Personally I like the whole case, but definitely the 4870 X2 is the most powerful component which gives the picture a lot of quality and performance in games.

What sucks and should not have been bought?
Maybe my current fans, because I don't like those green and red lights, also I think I should change them for black ones with no lights.

Did you modify anything?  case / video card / other? Did you do it yourself? Walk us through it.
Most certainly -- I did some drilling and painting on case. Also I took out a HDD cage and installed 3 HDDs into different places: one is in the bottom of the case, the second is on top of the DVD drive, and the third and last is in a floppy disc drive spot. I have had a lot of pain with cable management, which has paid of.

Your 3DMark06 / 3DMark Vantage score (P+GPU)
Vantage: 11248 (with previous RAM, of which I had 2 times less and was not as good as the OCZ).
GPU was 15206 (Diamond OC) and CPU 6316 (@3.6GHz).

For 3DMark06 I was unable to find any kind of information.

Do you have any Future updates planned?
If I'm going to update anything, then it would be CPU, with that also comes the motherboard and maybe also the RAM, but that would be later in the future, as far as possible.
