 GSkill Falcon 128GB SSD review

By: Hilbert Hagedoorn Edited by Ian R. Barling | Published: May 22, 2009

Unboxing a Falcon

On the next few pages we'll show you some photos. The images were taken at high-resolution and then cropped and scaled down. The camera used was a Canon 450D 12 MegaPixel.

Right, unboxing the product we notice that the SSD has the Falcon branding clearly visible on it. Military precision and build quality .. SSDs can take 1500 G. Other than the SSD and packaging you'll find a jumper, allowing you to enable to flash the firmware of the controller. Something I like very much.

You can find the model we tested under the product code (SKU) FM-25S2S-128GBF1 and this is the 2.5" SATA II 128GB version. You should easily be able to place it somewhere in your chassis.

And of course, it's a perfect fit for laptops. This SSD would bring a whole lot of performance onto that laptop alright, all at low power consumption and virtually no heat.

Slim and light-weight, 9.5mm tall, it's the standard for notebook drives. When we look at the connectors, we spot the standard power and SATA connector. But let's zoom in a little bit.

The photo doesn't show it, but all the way to the left under the cap there are two pins located. Apply the supplied jumper, and you are able to flash the firmware of the Falcon.

Installation wise it's the same as a traditional HDD. Pop it in, connect it, bind it, format it and you are good to go at horribly fast speeds.
