Gigabyte Odin GT 800 Watt PSU review

The Verdict

I was pleasantly surprised with Gigabyte's Odin GT 800 Watt PSU. In fact this seems to be one of the better PSU's we have tested to date. Now we can't objectively load test at 800 watts so the question remains: Can it really cope with that? We believe it's the case. Everything about the PSU looks and feels pretty good. I understand there have been some smaller issues with the first batch of the Odin GT series, yet that seems to be fixed. Also the software errors as some other articles have pointed out validly are a thing of the past so that should not be a worry either.

What remains is a PSU that we have not been able to get down on it's knees. So overall this PSU is very good. Stability wise it could cope with anything we threw at it, and trust me ... We tested on a very high end overclocked machine.

But what makes this PSU excellent is the sheer amount of features that you will not find on any other PSU. Surely the modular cables for cable-management, nice black design, new 8pin PCIe power connectors and sleeved cables are getting pretty common. No, I am referring to the thermal probes, fan control and obviously the integration of P-Tuner software which allows a good amount of monitoring, management and control over your PSU. It didn't stop there though, we also see other stuff like a 80+ % power efficiency, and 14 CM fan integrated into the PSU; even something as simple as the pouch for your modular cables. To sum it up, the Odin GT seems to have it all and by doing so is setting a new standard for power supplies.

Pricing then. Well it's not too bad either. Expect a sales price of roughly 199 EUR for the unit as tested today. Surely a lot of money for a PSU, but remember what I already mentioned in the first page of this review. Do not underestimate the importance of a power supply. This one seems to have the best of everything.

Highly recommended and for the extensive monitoring and regulation features we like to give this innovative Gigabyte Odin GT 800 Watt a well deserved editor's choice award as I really do enjoy this product.

Thanks go out to dollarshops.eu for supplying this PSU.
