Copyright 2005 - Guru3D.comOh okay then .. one more .. but really this is it you know ! This (as far as I am concerned) the last AGP video card we'll see and test here in the Guru caves. Oh wait .. maybe one more of these from XFX then deal ? Yeah I know, it was only three weeks ago when I was praising the GeForce 6800 GS AGP version into the skies as it was to be considered the truly last of the Mohicans. I did expect a series 7 model AGP card on the market soon though as I wrote in the conclusion of that article.

So, here it is folks, the GeForce 7800 GS in the flavor AGP. A lot of you will go wild as there finally is a really nice upgrade for all the AGP PCs out there, and there's quite a few of them. Yeah NVIDIA has nothing to be ashamed of as this little puppy is what you have been waiting on for a while now.

It's a card that doesn't require a hound dog of a processor to work aside with, and it's even priced really good at 299 USD ! And you just know that this price will drop in the upcoming weeks. On the other side, it does only have 16 pixel pipelines and a rather slowed down core frequency but hey ... it's fast for sure my friends.

Also I just have to mention that with a Series 7 product you are up-to date again. Dual-link DVI connector for extremely high-resolutions, excellent PureVideo compatibility (unfortunately you have to buy PureVideo software to make full use off that function), integrated HDTV encoder and decoder, and all the goodness from the 7800 series products we reviewed.

So those of you who felt left out .. congratulations as there is a valuable yet really good performing AGP product on the market again. For roughly 299 USD you can get some really nice brute horsepower in your AGP based system. And I know for sure there are still MANY of you in need for exactly this product.

Focus on the chart below where I cite the more important specs.

They armed this AGP 7800 GS with high-end GDDR3 memory, which runs at a lovely 600 MHz clock (that's effectively 1200 MHz). Interestingly enough this product might swing between GeForce 6800 GT and Ultra performance here and there due to the similar frame buffer bandwidth and equal pipelines. Series 7 graphics cores however are a far more efficient product.

Let's get familiar with that we are talking about today and that would be the beefy GeForce 7800 GS; a very nice product in terms of bang for your bucks in the lower segment of the high-end graphics gaming arena, and all that for an AGP platform. Next page please.
