Galaxy GeForce 9800 GT 1024MB review | test

Galaxy GeForce 9800 GT 1024MB

So currently for the price of roughly 135 USD you can pickup this Galaxy GeForce 9800 GT equipped with 1024MB memory. What is the difference between the 8800 GT and the 9800 GT you guys must ask yourselves, well .. Subtle differences really. There's a certain amount of creative freedom NVIDIA's board partners can use with this product. They are free to customize it.

Very much like Galaxy's GeForce 9800 GTX+ 512MB we recently tested, this 9800 GT comes with a complete custom design. Everything from PCB up to the cooler and connectors differs from the reference based products. Now don't get me wrong, the reference products are already extremely good. So to do something different from that, is a bold move. But it certainly works out with nice custom blue PCB and the unconventional cooler. And (we'll show you this in the photo shoot) both a DVI and HDMI connector, which is great to see. So whether you connect the card to your HD telly or computer monitor... it doesn't really matter.

Clock frequencies then, The memory clocks (reference 9800 GT) are 900 MHz (x2), the core frequency (reference) 600 MHz and for the freaks, the shader domain is clocked at 1500 MHz. Galaxy has its clocks set at reference, yet with the core clock at 625 MHz.

Included in the bundle you will find:

  • Galaxy GeForce 9800 GT 1024MB
  • Driver CD
  • HDTV block (3-way RCA component)
  • S-Video cable
  • 6-pin to Molex power cable (x1)
  • manual / quick install guide
  • S/PDIF cable (for HDMI audio).

Next to a small overclocking / monitoring suite called Xtreme Tuner, there is no additional software to be found. What I do like though is as stated, a sharp price versus a custom PCB (printed circuit board), a blue one at that, and good details like a voltage regulator cooling heatsink.

Manufacturer Limited Warranty period (labor & parts): 2 years
