Freezer Xtreme Arctic Cooler CPU cooler review

By: Hilbert Hagedoorn Edited by Joshua Finger | Published: November 21, 2008

The Verdict

The Arctic Cooling Freezer Xtreme definitely is a nice cooler. There's a lot to say about it. First off, price wise it will definitely not break the bank, as you can pick it up at a very fair price. The cooler comes with pre-applied MX2 thermal compound and a six year warranty. The suggested price stands at €25.95 / US$39.95.

So this is a mid-range priced product, and surely it belongs there. The performance results we got from the cooler with the QX9770 processor at stock 3200 MHz were truly good. Things started to shift a little when we overclocked the processor and jammed some extra volts into the CPU. At that point we maxed out at roughly 70 Degrees C, which is doable ... but not really recommendable. But please do bare in mind that the QX9770 processor is the most high-end LGA 775 processor that money can buy you, the 1600 MHz FSB makes it a pretty hot processor all by itself.

What I loved about the cooler is the very clever mounting bracket. There's just no need to remove the motherboard anymore. And the pins that secure that bracket do a magnificent job. What I personally frowned upon was the way we needed to mount the cooling unit onto the bracket. You need to secure it with two screws that are inside the cooler, and there's just very little space to work with. But that's merely a minor discomfort.

So, summing it up. For mainstream usage and people that do not plan really hardcore overclocks the Freezer Xtreme will do a splendid job. Next to the ease of use it's also really silent which is a major plus in my book. Combine these two facts with is very decent price and we can surely say that it's a Guru3D recommended product.
