 EVGA X58 SLI review

By: Hilbert Hagedoorn Edited by John A. Johnsen | Published: December 19, 2008

Key Features of the eVGA X58 SLI

The EVGA X58 SLI board carries support for 2-way SLI, 3-way SLI and CrossfireX. It also will have nine SATA II ports and an eSATA port, EVGA VDroop control, EVGA E-Leet tuning utility which rocks). The most distinctive feature is obviously that this is a high-end Core i7 compatible mainboard and thus comes with triple channel memory functionally and the aforementioned SLI & Crossfire features. The board features a nice black PCB.

In terms of board design we spotted 100% solid state capacitors and EVGA EZ Voltage.

One of the cool things on the motherboard is a Onboard Debug LED. In case of an error it'll post a diagnostic code explaining what is going on. In Windows it will actually show your current CPU temperature. The introductory price is roughly 299 USD/ EUR and here are the motherboard's advertised features:

  • Supports Intel Core i7 Processors
  • Intel X58 Express Chipset with the ICH10R Southbridge
  • Supports over 6.4 Giga-transfers per second
  • Supports Intel Turbo Boost Technology
  • Supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 10
  • EVGA VDroop Control
  • 100% Solid State Capacitors
  • 6 DIMM triple-channel DDR3
  • Enthusiast layout supporting 2-way, 3-way SLI and CrossFireX
  • 10 SATA II 3.0GB/s ports (1 e-SATA)
  • EVGA EZ Voltage
  • Adjustable PWM Frequency
  • EVGA E-LEET Tuning Utility Software

A very notable include is dual Gigabit LAN as well as eight USB 2.0 ports. Something I very much love is the sheer number SATA ports (9x SATA and 1x eSATA). Very subtle and minor yet cool items are the back panel located CMOS CLEAR button, and located elsewhere (we'll show you in the photo-shoot) a Power Button and reset button. BIOS wise we see some pretty nice overclocking features as well with wide ranges for settings, multipliers and voltages. This board is made for tweaking for sure.

But you know what, talk is cheap. Let's head on over towards the photo shoot where we'll walk you through the motherboard and it's features properly.
