The Verdict
Whenever we test high-end power supplies, I always immediate start to note in the conclusion that our review and in specific our testing method can be considered subjective. See, for a really proper review, we'd need to have massively capable load testing equipment worth multiple thousands dollars. We do not have that equipment. But you guys know and understand very well that I however know hardware and recognize quality when I test it, and the Revolution series is among the best we have tested.
Fair enough, the best real-world thing we could do was load up the PSU with really power hungry components and then stress test it in a real-world environment just like you would create at home. We feel there's a lot to be for this method as well.
Fact is, the Revolution series are a powerhouse inside your PC. The revolution 850W can peak well over a kilowatt, and that is very extreme. The fun thing is, it remains completely silent while stressing it.
And though recently on the web we have seen a lot of discussion regarding the validity of using an 1000+ KW power supply. My thesis never failed me; I simply like to have reserves and not once did I ran into a stability issue or got an overheated PSU just because I know the PSU will never be an issue (for me). I have this feeling with the PSU as tested today, it has plenty reserves, a lot of it really and that definitely did show. Even with multiple multi-GPU graphics cards and added PhysX card on an overclocked system the PSU virtually spoken coughed silently at best. The unit remains 100% stable, silent and doesn't seem to break a sweat. And that's the kind of gear you like to have, feeding your expensive components.
No Sir, we like the Revolution series alright. Nice design, very stable, very silent, modular and let's not forget .. this is a highly efficient power supply rated at 85% efficiency. More efficient PSUs will not only be a little greener to the environment, it also saves you money on your power bill. My motto is simple, higher efficient PSUs will pay themselves back on the long term, plain and simple.
There's just really nothing physically negative to report on these PSUs whatsoever, though one secret wish from my side is that I would like to see Enermax move to completely black sleeved wiring, but that's purely aesthetics of course.
es, it's difficult not to like the Revolution 850W, but all that excellence obviously does come at a price. As such expect to find this model for roughly 249 USD / 225 EUR, and that is a steep price. It's a choice you have to make, but my final words here have to be that you need to look at a PSU of this class as an investments ensuring the best and stable power delivery in your system. Also don't forget, highly efficient PSUs on the long term will save you money, which you can deduct from that sales price. Your warranty is limited to three years, which we feel is fair.
Bottom line: the product is an excellent choice for today and tomorrow's PCs that will last a long time. Yes, Viva la Revolution.
