 ECS GeForce GTS 250 1024MB review | test

 By: Hilbert Hagedoorn Edited by John A. Johnsen | Published: April 21, 2009

ECS GeForce GTS 250 with 1024 MB video memory

As we are accustomed to with ECS, very little of their products are 100% standard as referenced by NVIDIA (shown at the previous page). Surely under the hood of this GeForce GTS 250 we spot the G92B chip, the GeForce 9800 GTX+, aka GTS 250.

ECS set it's clock frequencies reference at 738 MHz on the core, 1836 MHz on the shader domain and 1100 MHz on the memory. Weirdly enough not even a tiny overclock, as the product can clock much higher as we'll show you in our tweaking session.

Jumping right out of your screen is of course the overall design. The blue PCB color and then obviously the cooler. Now I'll be honest here. I have a reservation about the cooler. Once your graphics card driver is loaded it is silent. Yet under full load it's getting a little noisy. Also something we'll look at in our tests of course. The cooler itself is one big aluminum heatsink sitting on top of the GPU, voltage regulators and memory, being cooled down with one ventilator. Overall it definitely is a nice looking card though, color the PCB color RED and one might think that's ATI under the hood ;)

Bundled with the product you'll find:

  • GeForce GTS 250 1024 MB
  • Driver CD
  • manual / quick install guide (a bit flimsy really).
  • HDMI->DVI dongle
  • SP/DIF cable
  • 6-pin power converter (1x)

Not exactly a very extensive bundle, but all the basics are inserted. Keep in mind that at 149 USD this product is mid-range and you get some customized cooling and design.

ECS are offering you a two year warranty with this graphics card. And at this price-level it's okay. So in a tidbit we'll dive into a photo-shoot where we'll show you all of the lovely aesthetics of this product, as there are quite a few of them to be seen.

First we'll talk a little about power usage, noise levels generated by cooling, and heat.
