Going First base Bass
When we take a quick peek at the MUVO TX the first thing that comes to mind is design and diminutive size. The design in rather cool, the size is small and it weighs... well, basically nothing. The TX is powered by one AAA battery that can provide about 12-15 hours of non stop music. Not bad eh? I would applaude the first manufacturer to include a rechargeable battery though. I mean you can hook this device to the USB port, it can feed itself the necessary power from it. We are stuck with a disposable AAA battery though. Hey, buy rechargeable batteries okay? I mean... think a bit about that environment of ours.
Installation
Anyway, the MUVO TX... this lovely little device is more then just a music player. Multifunctional is the word here as you can also use it as a little flash-drive. You plug it into your USB port, windows will recognize it as an external drive and assign a drive-letter to it.
It's easy as 1-2-3, you insert the pen drive into the USB port and two seconds later Windows has added another drive. Now you can read, write, copy, delete and move data from your hard disk drive to the MUVO or the other way around.
Pure and simple, you don't even need to format it as Creative already did that for you. So now we are in business. Simply copy music towards the new "drive" and TX will seek and play my friends. The TX also has the option to create directories within the "root" of the device. So you can copy complete albums into seperate directories. It's only recognized one level deep though. If you make sub-directories then the MUVO will not be able to seek music from inside a sub-directory.
As stated before, you really don't need to copy music to it. You can also use the device for storage. Thus if you need to transport the latest photo's, Word document or whatever to your friends PC then hey... you can use it for that purpose also. You run off to your friends or business associates, you've got a few documents you'd like to share, think of the possibilities here. Pump the bugger with some MP3's or even video-files and take them along.
Windows XP binds this device as a mass-storage device in seconds and without the need to install any software. It's plug and play baby.
Does flash memory have a downside ? Yes... speed. It reads and writes very slowly. And as always, performance will increase with time. Right now do not expect too much from it in terms of MB per second. Even with USB 2.0 I was not able to get transfers going at an acceptable rate. Think in terms of KiloByte per second. Don't get scared though... it's not slow either. Expect 500 KB/sec. But just be glad you don't have to move around several gigabytes.
