We made a little video where we'll show you how to unlock the drive and also learn you how to program a new PIN code. Mind you that after unpacking the device is completely unlocked. You can access data and use it as a regular flash drive. Once you activate the pin code it becomes a secure device. Check it out.

The Corsair padlock is a very handy storage unit that does what it advertises to do, it keeps your data secure. Though not the fastest kid on the block when it comes to flash storage we also need to add, it was not designed and intended that way. You'll still have maximum decent USB speeds for file transfers, which is good enough for  this editor. I can tell you already that we like the concept. The padlock is extremely handy to use, carry around , configure and more importantly, it keeps your data pretty damn secure. This editor will definitely be using it from now on to carry around NDA materials other disclosed information.

A big advantage of the PadLock is very simple, it's OS independent. No need to install any software as the PIN system is not tied to a software installation. 256-bit is good, probably not government certified but still really really good.

Are there any real downsides ? Not really .. perhaps the inconvenience of the drive locking itself after you remove it from the USB port is a minor inconvenience, but it surely is more secure as you won't forget to lock it down yourself. The discomfort there is that you'll need to activate it with the PIN code again before it becomes usable again.

Now for a flash drive with this specific functionality I do not mind the overall performance, but I would like to see bigger versions of this unit say 16, 32 or 64GB ?  Material usage then, the Padlock 2 looks and feels much like the Voyager series. with similar rubber casing, to it's rather shock and moist resistant as well.

With that I like to wrap things up,  the Padlock 2 is priced fair but is not cheap at $60. It comes with modest transfer speeds due to the 256-bit AES encryption overhead. Corsair's Flash Padlock 2 secure flash drive is definitely one of the best alternatives on the market to keep your data secure when you are on the road protecting your precious data, very much recommended.
