The Verdict
With the Obsidian 800D Corsair really brings a near perfect and very innovative chassis to the market. Sure, it's a little expensive at 299 USD ~ € 225 - for most of you... but if you are keen on how exactly a PC should look, or if you are into water-cooling and like them fast graphics cards and components with a cool look... then I know for sure that this product will likely be in your wish-list.
First off, the aesthetics are just awesome. It's a clean cut matt black finish looking chassis. What makes it special aesthetics wise is that it is black from the inside out. It's perfect for dark-colored high-end gear like motherboards and graphics cards. Then there's the sheer amount of detail that Corsair put into this chassis. The removable HDD/SDD trays, the grommeted holes for managing your wiring, then spacious wire management on the backside of the PC itself, it just oozes with space to carefully tuck away all the cables keeping the front side nice and tidy -- we have rarely seen so much detail available to us when it comes to cable management.
Then there's something I am ashamed of not doing (yet)... liquid cooling. The Corsair Obsidian 800D is begging for it, it's down on its knees telling you to insert a nice triple 120MM radiator with some really thick tubing. There's plenty of room for a reservoir as well. Room itself, inside the Obsidian 800D everything again is spacious... if the largest graphics cards on this globe will not have an issue being installed inside this chassis.
Cooling wise we see three heat zones inside the chassis, nicely separated and cooled. As such, temperatures inside the chassis are good with decent airflow, not an issue there either. Noise wise the fans that create the airflow are not at all noisy either, this design is fairly silent really.
Ah well I can ramble on and on about the Obsidian 800D, but very little competition, even Lian-Li or Cooler Master, can come close to what Corsair has accomplished with the Obsidian series 800D. Are there reasons not to buy this chassis? Yes... two -- either it's too expensive for you or you don't like the design. Other than that there simply is no reason whatsoever to dislike this chassis.
So if you appreciate the looks and can afford it... there's currently no other chassis on the market I would prefer over the Obsidian 800D. Each time you walk by the chassis you will get a sweet grin on your face -- it's probably one of the best investments you can ever make.
Bottom line: The Corsair Obsidian series 800D chassis is hitting the stores right now with the estimated price tag of around $299 / € 225 - You'll receive a full 2-year warranty. Yes, I am rarely this excited about a chassis, so there's only one thing left to do on our side. I handed it out maybe once or two times this year only... the award for best hardware. Well deserved, what a pleasure it was to review gear like this.
