 CeBIT America 2003

Drawing to an end

As the expo draws to an end, I walked back to the exhibitors I have previously visited, and asked them how the past 3 days have been.  Well, the general consensus was that it was slow.  A few have noted that it is just the first year, and they are hopeful that next year’s show will be a bit busier.  I heard from one exhibitor that a little less than half the attendees that have signed up attended.  I am guessing weather has had something to do with it, as it rained on and off the whole week.  A few others said that they probably won’t be attending next year, as they would rather spend their finances on other forms of advertising.  Another exhibitor I talked to said that the low attendance rate could have been attributed by the absence of big names such as Microsoft, Intel and AMD.  Maybe that could change next year.  Some actually embraced the laid back atmosphere as they were able to get down to a little more on the personal level with an attendee.  In my opinion, I liked the laid back atmosphere as well, since I was able to talk to a representative in length about their products on hand, as well as share some stories, and such, so I have to agree with it being a tad personal in one form of another.  Was CeBit a success? I would say so, being a first time thing here in the US, it had a pretty good turn out rate, it could’ve been better.  There is room for improvement, and hopefully in future expos, that void that was missing this year could be filled.  I had a great time during those 3 days, I have met a lot of great people, and well, got to try out and see some new ‘toys’.  I just kind of hate it, because, my stuff sitting in front of me isn’t quite as good.  Hopefully next year, things would be a little different.  And to those who wonder, what CeBIT means, well, it means Centrum der Buero- und Informationstechnik--in English, that's the Center for Office and Information Technology.  Just for those who were wondering.

Till the next time...
