BFG GeForce 9800 GTX 512MB OCX review

BFG GeForce 9800 GTX 512MB OCX

We already spilled the beans in the introduction, but today we are reviewing the "OCX" model of the BFG GeForce 9800 GTX line of products.

Personally I find this to be a pretty exhilarating product as the default clock frequency on the three most important parts of the graphics card are significantly faster. Let's peek at them:

GeForce 9800 GTX reference clocks

  • Core 675 MHz
  • Shader processors 1675 MHz
  • Memory 2200 MHz effective

BFG GeForce 9800 GTX OCX edition

  • Core 756 MHz
  • Shader processors 1890 MHz
  • Memory 2304 MHz effective

I don't know what you guys are thinking right now, but that's a pretty significant overclock. As our benchmarks will reveal, this product now comes close to the GeForce 8800 Ultra performance wise. It's an instant 10-15% increase in performance.

Packaging and Accessories

Included in the box you'll find:

  • GeForce 9800 GTX 512 MB OCX model
  • Driver CD
  • HDTV block (3-way RCA component)
  • 6-pin to Molex power cable
  • manual / quick install guide
  • VGA->DVI dongle
  • HDMI adapter
  • SP/DIF cable

Hey now, a HDMI adapter is included. I knew that if we moan long enough, BFG would listen. To those that do not get what I'm talking about, I've been preaching for roughly half a year now that if you sell a HDMI ready product, you need to include at the very least a HDMI adapter to be able to hook up the product directly over a HDMI cable.

Thank you BFG for listening.

Also included is a small SP/DIF cable. You hook it up to your mainboard/soundcard SPDIF lead, then connect the wire to the 9800 GTX SP-DIF input and now you'll have multi-channel audio over HDMI HDCP v1.3 connection we just made.

Warranty
BFG will intro this product overclocked for you at default, but it does however come with the luxuries that they always offer. As mentioned; inside the USA a life-time warranty, which is just a really nice feature. Outside the US you are limited to 10 years warranty; which is still bloody fantastic. Mind you that if you purchase a BFG product then please within 30 days register yourself at the BFG website in order to activate that warranty. This is a new policy recently introduced.

Trade-Up program
BFG recently introduced a Trade-Up styled after eVGA, in fact even a little better. You have 100 days after the purchase of a new BFG graphics card to trade in your graphics card for a newer model, you only pay the difference in cost.

Something you need to be aware of, the value of the BFG graphics card you trade in will be  based off of the pre-determined MSRP of the card in question at the time you apply for the trade-up so the value of your BFG product will probably be worth less after a few months.

Mind you that if you purchase a BFG product then please within 30 days register yourself at the BFG website in order to activate that warranty & rights for the Trade-up program. This is a new policy recently introduced.
