Axle GeForce GTX 460 768 MB gets tested and reviewed

The release of the GeForce GTX 460 series has been a success alright. It is interesting to see the many positive reviews everywhere and all NVIDIA board partners trying to jump the gun by releasing many models based on the two new SKU's (768MB/1024MB).

The GTX 460 is a product that a lot of you guys have been waiting for. In their baseline configuration these products are just good. However, for the first time in a rather long time NVIDIA allowed it's partners to customize the PCBs, cooler and clock frequencies at launch time. The board partners have been complaining about that stringent grip of NVIDIA on the board designs for a long time time now, and the minute we see a launch with customized board partner SKUs, the minute the launch is a success.

The 'default' GeForce GTX 460 editions have the GPU running at 675 MHz and the memory clock at 3600 MHz (effective data-rate).

The company we test a product for today will very soon have their own designed cards, but the first sample they submitted is the 200 USD/EUR GeForce GTX 460 768MB model. The product is reference clocked and as such offers baseline performance. What will be interesting to see if a pure 100% reference model can overclock to 'Super Overclocked' models just as well. As that might easily save you 50 USD -- all with a manual tweak. For that this card would need to go beyond say a 800 MHz core clock and 4000 MHz without voltage tweaking. If the card could achieve such results, wouldn't you have an absolutely hot deal?

Have a peek at the product and then let's head onwards to the next page where we'll startup a review on this product covering everything you need to know about the standard Axle GeForce GTX 768MB.
