ATI Eyefinity

So ATI introduced Eyefinity technology on their Radeon HD 5000 series graphics cards. This literally boils down to multi monitor desktop and gaming nirvana. You will have no problem connecting say three 30" monitors at 2560x1600 per monitor.

Visualize an example of three screens which you could setup at 3x 1920x1080 = 5760x1080 pixels.

The 5800 series graphics cards can take that resolution and in fact combine the screen resolution and you can play games with it.

We'll even take it up a notch, ATI's Series 5800 graphics cards will be able to drive up-to six monitors per graphics card. We've seen and tested this live in action, and it works very nice. You can combine monitors and get your groove on up-to 7680x3200 pixels separated over several monitors -- multiple monitors to be used as a single display. I think the limit is even 8000x8000 pixels, but don't hold me to that..

Some examples what you can do where:

• Single Monitor setup in 2560x1600
• Dual Monitors setup in 2560x1600 per monitor
• Three monitors setup in 2560x1600 per monitor
• Six monitors setup in 1920x1080 per monitor

You can arrange the monitors next to each other, above each other and really any combination you see fit for it.

And sure we also understand that 99% of you guys will never use more than two monitors. That other 1% definitely matched the Guru3d audience and will likely use three monitor . Personally I like to game on three screens as well. It's really immersive, and especially on flight-simulators, racing games and strategy games (large field) you can enhance your visual experience, and obviously with more information thrown at you, you can game more precisely as well.

Mind you that for six monitor support a special edition (Eyefinity⁶) card will be launched with six display ports. Your average Radeon HD 5870 will have three of four monitor outputs. In fact the reference 5870 has two DVI, one HDMI and one display port connector all on one card.

For those that are wondering, would it be possible to use say two Radeon HD 5870 cards with each driving three monitors ? That's a no. CrossfireX will not support/allow this, so you'll need one primary cards from which all monitors lead.

At ATI's press events they hooked up the Radeon HD 5870 to half a dozen DisplayPort outputs that were running at their full resolution, merging all six into a solitary image to hit a phenomenal live display. Eyefinity is modular and thus allows users to rearrange the number of discrete images created in addition to their shape according to your liking. Guru3D users and gamers will no doubt find this setup to their liking. It will be interesting to learn just what kind of living room you have if you were to employ such a configuration.
