Arctic Cooling Silentium T3 ECO 80 review

By: Hilbert Hagedoorn Edited by Ant | Published: January 19, 2009

So then, as you can spot dead on from the T3 model number. This isn't the first Silentium being released. T3 is the new ECO friendly model which comes with a 80%+ efficient power supply integrated into the lower half the chassis.

The Silentium T3 itself is a steel case for ATX and micro ATX motherboards that measures 180 x 435 x 450 mm. It has 2 x 5.25" drive bays, 4 x 3.5" drive bays (2 internal), 7 expansion slots and 4 cooling fans. What you need to understand though is that this is a mid tower chassis. It will hold only very few components, yet has space enough for pretty much all ATX based mainboards and it does allow several HDDs and optical drivers to be installed. The wiring would be a tad messy yet with it's closed panel design, that just not something to worry about. This chassis is targeted at something else. A noiseless environment. See, the chassis has been designed from start with the goal to reduce the noise to an absolute minimum.

M/B Formfactor:   Micro & Full ATX
Dimensions:   18 (W) x 43.5 (H) x 45 (D) cm
Net Weight:   11.5 kg
Gross Weight:   13.8 kg
6 drive bays:   2x5.25 (open)
    2x 3.5 (open)
    1x 3.5 (internal)
    1x 3.5 damped HDD cover
Power Supply:   Seasonic/ARCTIC, active PFC
    550 Watt max
Fans:   3x ARCTIC Fan 8, 1000 - 1900 RPM
Bearing:   Fluid Dynamic Bearing, MTBF@40°C=400‘000h
Frontpanel I/O:   2x USB 2.0, 2 x Audio, IEEE 1394
Steel Quality:   0.8 mm SECC
Warranty:   2 Years

Now granted, it's a big of a weird chassis to look at. This is not the style we are used to anno 2008 as traditional openings and meshes at the front of the case were intentionally left out. Anyway, have a peek.
