AMD 785G chipset review - ECS A785GM-M test

AMD 785G chipset overview

When we flip the board around once more we spot 4 DIMM slots. Up-to 16 GB can be configured here yet the manual mentions 32 GB optional, yet not tested. The 24-pin motherboard connector is placed properly to the lower right. Next to it, an IDE Parallel ATA connector.

Moving slightly to the left, here we see SATA2 ports.

The left side of the motherboard. Underneath that little grey heatsink the Southbridge chip is located; SB710. Here we also spot the front panel connectors, not color coded, and roughly in the middle we spot another three headers for USB ports.

When we zoom in a little we spot micro-switches for reset, power on/off and Clear CMOS. Simple stuff, yet I love it. Also notice above the USB 2.0 inscription, the Diagnostic LED. It will show a number relating to the status of the PC. For whatever reason ECS made the mistake though to NOT include the diagnostic codes into the manual.

All the way back in the front we see the main slot connectors. Mind you that this is a mATX design and thus there's much less space for slots. But for an mATX board this is lovely though: 1 x PCI Express x16 slot, running at x16 (PCIE_16), 2 x PCI Express x1 slots and one PCI slot. That's a  lot of connectivity for mATX.

One last overview of the board. Here we can see the completely passive design as well. Despite the brownish PCB color, this is a good looking and feature rich motherboard for the money alright.
