 AlphaCool External 240x128 Display

By: Hilbert Hagedoorn Edited by  | Published: December 14, 2006

So today we are having a peek at the "External Alphacool LCD-Display 240x128 Pixel Blue neg. silver", hey I did not make up that name. It's a small LCD display that you can conveniently place somewhere in your surroundings. This gadget is made out of a sturdy brushed steel construction which looks pretty cool. The monitor base can be detached and used in vertical position as well.

Inside we can find a blue monochrome LCD display with the dimension of 240 pixels wide and 128 pixels in height. Yes you can consider this to be a 129 EUR costing mini monitor.

Technical data:- Blue-white Graphic - Display

  • 240x128 Pixel, inverted (blue display with white fonts)
  • USB 1.1 & 2.0 compatible
  • external operation
  • Extra-Slim (1cm thick, incl. Controller)
  • The Alpha-LCD Software is downloadable in the Beta version (see below)
  • Endless display possibilities
  • Weight: approx. 350g
  • plate from aluminium anodized/brushed
  • full graphic display with port for USB 1.1 or USB 2.0

Bundle:

  • Retail packing
  • LCD display external
  • USB cable: 3m

Indeed at 129 EUR it is very expensive but hear me out. We have tested several PLED and what not displays in the past and we know that they are expensive but they hardly came close to what this gadget is offering. What makes this little gadget so special is next to the cool design it is highly configurable. You can display numerous standard system information but you can also go in-depth and design your own information screens. The included software utilizes plugins that will look up in software registers from a lot of software. Do you have FRAPS running? Well cool you can now display the current and average framerate over the external display. Want to see how hot your CPU is ? Or what voltage it's at ? Hook the MBM or Speedfan plugin. How hot or what clock is your graphics card running on ? Plug in Rivatuner and you'll receive information on your display.

Don't you like how the information is displayed ? Then you can configure a screen all by yourself, all in a very easy to use environment. You can insert generic system information, clocks, time, date, framerate, design and insert your own logo's, CPU-Load, Network stats, game statistics, email info... yes the entire shebang. That's some pretty cool stuff folks.

But first let's have a look at a couple of photo's of this displays abilities. After that we'll take a brief look at the software.
