Unboxing the Accelero XTREME 4780X2 cooler

On the next few pages we'll show you some photos. The images were taken at high-resolution and then cropped and scaled down. The camera used was a Canon 450D 12 MegaPixel.

Right then, meet the kit needed today. One Accelero XTREME 4780X2 cooler and to your right the ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2.

Here's is the kit itself. The cooler is equipped with three 92mm PWM fans running from 1,000 to 2,000 RPM, generating 81 CFM airflow which allows the fans to remove the heat from the graphics card efficiently. We'll look at it later. The eight-heatpipe design also improves heat dissipation and achieves 320 Watts cooling capacity.

  • Extreme cooling performance up to 320 Watts
  • 3 ultra quiet 92mm PWM fans with low noise impeller
  • Efficient heat dissipation via 8 heatpipes
  • Patented fan holder eliminates the buzzing sounds
  • RAM and voltage regulator cooling
  • Pre-applied MX-2
  • Crossfire compatible

The kit includes the cooler, two heatsinks, thermal pads and two power connectors. The manual is below par. It's more a pictorial like the one you get when you purchase a self build closet at Ikea. No text whatsoever. In all fairness, it is really easy to understand the installation process though.

Here we have the top side of the cooler.  Three fans sit on top of the aluminum fins. The three 92mm PWM fans are really quiet. Also thanks to the PWM function, the fans run just at necessary speeds while offering sufficient cooling at the lowest noise level. Even running at full speed 2,000 RPM you hardly can hear them.

Here we see the backside, the two GPU  locations, mounting holes and as you can see MX2 thermal paste is applied. I think that AC is planning to change that to MX3 real soon, it could shave off another 2 maybe 3 degrees C.

There are eight heatpipes to be found guiding to the aluminum fins, offering an astounding 320Watt of cooling performance. So as you can see, every basis is covered and the product should perform really well.
