So, how will F.E.A.R. stack up against the FPS Genres 'latest and greatest'? Well, at the moment that’s hard to tell. The signs are certainly there that it will be up there with the best. The AI is there, as is the graphics engine, although as our preliminary results show, you will need to make sure your PC is capable. The gameplay is awesome, especially where the set pieces are concerned, and the atmosphere the game creates is enough to keep even the most hardened gamer at the keyboard. However, there are some unfortunate signs of 'doom 3 syndrome' i.e. that unfortunate walk along corridor… enemy(s) appear… shoot enemy(s)… recover from near heart attack… next corridor please… and so on. Hopefully, F.E.A.R. can add some variety to its corridor shooter pretensions, if they do this, then coupled with the games pure cinematic style, excellent AI, and intriguing story line, Monolith have a potential masterpiece on their hands.

Look out for the full Guru3D verdict around time of release, complete with performance analysis.

F.E.A.R. will be released on the 14th October in Europe, and on the 10th October in the US. Published by VU Games.
